Summer Reading Challenge!

The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenges is a free online reading program for children (May 9, 2016- September 9, 2016!!).  This year their theme is Be a Reading Superhero!  You read books and log your minutes, try to reach weekly minute milestones and answer questions to earn virtual rewards and you can enter for a chance to win awesome books every time you reach a weekly reading milestone.  You can log how many minutes you read and see the running total on their website.  You can also see how many minutes our school has read compared to other schools worldwide.

Also check out this book challenges put on by Scholastic.  Each list has a book list (by age) with the goal being to read all or as many books on the list as you can.

Summer Math Challenge!

The Summer Math Challenges is FREE math skills maintenance program based on grade-level standards and Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

The program is targets to students who have just completed 2^nd through 5^th grades and is designed to help kids retain math skills learned during the previous school year.  There are four easy steps to join this challenge.

Summer Writing Challenge!

One of the best ways to help a kids get started writing in the summer time is to have them start writing in a journal. Give them a list of journal writing prompts found below and or let them choose a topic or genre.  I included our class genre lists from this school year.  Please encourage your child to write from fiction AND nonfiction.  Just list we balance our reading diet, it is important to balance your writing diet too!

Summer Science Challenge!

If wondering is something you want to continue to do this summer, be sure to check out Camp Wonderopolis!  The website explains all the great opportunities to continue learning this summer.  This camp begins June 13, 2016 and you can follow the link below to register.  Since you are under 13 years of age, you need your parent/guardian’s permission and only they can register you.  If they agree, you can work through the camp together as a family.  This will help you stay safe online.

This year’s theme is Flex Your Wonder which will be full of health and fitness focused wonders.
